Try unplugging the main dvr and see if the receiver stays on or not. If it stays on then my guess is the dvr is bad. I just finished installing the replacement dvr and so far.knock on wood. the bedroom receiver hasn't rebooted. No one at att knows why or how or ever heard of this but have them send a new dvr.
I don't have an exact answer but I have (probably) the same unit. Buggy software, clumsy web interface.
I use IP Cam Viewer Pro which is an android app...but... I use Blue Stacks on my laptop (Dell XT3) and I can use/view my cameras with it. As far as playback, yes it does have record/playback but I haven't used it but all the options are there for searching, etc.

IP Cam Viewer Pro is a paid app but the author is fantastic in keeping up with the latest dvr's, cameras, etc.
I also use it with my wireless ip cams... ptz cams... and it works wonderfully.
